Some of you will have noticed that our little Deli has evolved somewhat as we have slowly reinvented it over the past month or so, focusing especially on the installation of a kitchen & preparation area to enable our amazing chefs to prepare and create an even more amazing patisserie section. You’ll be able to watch the chefs in action as all of the delicious and tempting smells escape the oven..

These gorgeously crafted sweet treats are displayed in the Deli and are available for you to take home, wrapped and boxed to eat a little later, or even better, to gift to a special someone celebrating or perhaps in need of a pick me up.. (there’s nothing quite like the gift of cake, right)? We also use our patisseries on our delicious afternoon teas and you can choose your favorite and devour it whilst you dine at the restaurant as part of the dessert menu…

Our head chef has created a staple menu of seasonal choices that will be made daily in house with additional Chef specials available too!

Expect things like marscapone and black cherry shortbread tarts, white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake, crunchy nut – peanut butter cake pops, tiramisu, panacotta, raspberry delice, truffles, macarons in every flavour and old time favorites such as gooey chocolate brownies, Welsh cakes, scones and home made fudge!

The Deli is also bursting with an array of locally made gifts and art, with the full range from Thornbush Hill, Textiles from No Grey Days, illustrations, cards and mugs from Hannah Davies, coasters and prints from Jenny Lambert, Beautiful pebble art and gifts made from sea foraged treasures from Art by Alexa, hand stamped, quirky gifts from Happy Stamp gift co and beautifully handmade looms from Full loom!

We still offer bespoke catering services from the Deli, so if you’re looking for event catering that’s a little bit different from the norm, drop us an email to discuss requirements. Think Mediterranean grazing tables, vintage afternoon tea and ploughmans banquets. We do mini boxed versions of all of these too if you fancied a little picnic by the beach or at home or to try before you book for your big event.

Best Restaurant in Wales 2018!

It’s been a week since that incredible night at the Food Awards Wales 2018. Our first ever awards attendance and what a first it was! It’s taken a week for it to sink in.. a crazy, busy week of lots of new customers and lots and lots of meals!

We found out around six weeks ago that we were in the finals for these awards. We were blown away and bouncing just at receiving this news!

We had received an unprecedented amount of nominations from customers that ensured us a spot in the finals. We weren’t sure what category we were in at that point, but never in a million years did we think we’d be included in the big one – Best Restaurant in Wales. Our restaurant kitchen had only opened in December, 4 months ago, so this was unbelievable!! We were in the South East Category amongst some very good company indeed!

I received the news on my Birthday and I flew into the kitchen when I heard, to share it with the Chefs and the Front of House team. We were all so excited. It was such a brilliant day and even just to be nominated in that category was a huge accolade in itself. We proudly displayed our finalist poster around the restaurant and awaited the 23rd April 2018!

The awards night arrived and the whole team were suited and booted in our gladrags for the black tie event at the most stunning venue – The Exchange Hotel in Cardiff.

The atmosphere was electric all night with each winner being applauded by a genuinely happy audience. The awards are recognising everyone in the food industry in Wales from restaurants, to suppliers to chefs, to street food vendors, hotel restaurants – you name it, everyone had a chance to shine and what incredible talent there was sat in that room.

We had a three course meal, entertainment and the drinks were flowing. Ours was the last award to be announced and by this time I was feeling rather giddy! When our region came up, my palms were clammy and my mouth was dry.. Then she said our name – Cobbles Kitchen!! The screams from our table were deafening as I made my way to the stage to join the rest of the regional winners of the Best Restaurants in Wales.

Once all regional winners were stood on stage, we were asked to stay there whilst we waited for the announcement of the overall winner. This part was a complete blur, it’s only from watching the video that I can see what happened.. all I can remember is the feeling of complete shock! My jaw hit the floor and I just looked out to a stampede of my Cobbles gang heading for the stage.. it was a magical and completely overwhelming moment.. the rest of the night was spent celebrating – really, really celebrating!!!

Since the awards, we’ve had an absolutely incredible response from customers old and new. We are so blown away by everyone’s kind words. We’re a young business, we’re always growing and learning and improving with each day and we are absolutely honoured to have received such a monumental accolade in such a short time.

I want to thank everyone who has been involved in building Cobbles from the very beginning.. the early days in the small barn with just two of us in the kitchen to now, 20+ members of highly talented, focussed and loyal staff members that I absolutely adore! Cobbles wouldn’t be where it is without the support of the team of staff that has helped us grow.

Also, our customers.. there are so many of you that have been there since the beginning, that have supported and routed for us and offered encouragement and praise along the sometimes bumpy road. Thank you for keeping on coming back and spreading the love!!

I’m really excited to see what the next chapter of our story brings.. this really is the best thing I’ve ever done and although it’s sometimes so tough, every time I walk into those barns, I feel happy!
