The 5th December sees 2 years to the day that we first opened our barn doors at Tymaen Farm barns, hoping and praying that our little business would be a hit and we could bring joy and happiness to the bellies of the Vale..
Fast forward to today and after some pretty lengthy planning and listed building applications, lots of building work, patience, optimism and support from our Landlord, Creative Rural Communities, the Welsh Government and The European Community, we are finally looking at the end of the final phase of the huge expansion and renovation project that has been taking place at Cobbles.
Phase 1 saw the opening of our on-site Deli, a haven of local artisan produce.. your friendly neighbourhood one stop shop for all of your locally produced daily essentials and a delicious Cobbles made pie for tea. Somewhere where you can come and fill up a hamper bursting with the best local stock money can buy, a barn full to the rafters of delicious delights!
Phase 2 was the opening of our Cobbled Bar.. A masterpiece structure created using the old cobblestones from the floor in our little Cwtch, with a locally made concrete top finishing it off and a handsome industrial pipe housing our beer taps, gravity fed from our hayloft overhead.. As with the rest of the business, we strive to showcase the best products our region and country has to offer.. supporting the local micro breweries who are all doing a great job at providing us with beautiful craft beers, lagers, ale and cider as well as a carefully selected and elegant wine and spirits list. We try to steer clear of the commercials although you will see some of your familiar favourites there.. trying to keep you all happy! 😉
Phase 3 was the renovation of our hayloft.. arguably the most beautiful, characterful room in our barns with the original timber beams, trusses and perlings exposed and beautiful reclaimed timber flooring. The hayloft is where you’ll enjoy our delicious afternoon teas and its also available to privately hire for functions, parties, workshops, classes and more..
Next and imminently is the new kitchen install and the restoration of the oldest part of the barn. We’ve knocked through an original doorway that would have once been an access into the old barn and which now connects the cwtch to the main building..
There is also plans for indoor toilets where our existing kitchen is now, landscaping and the best bit – central heating which is all happening over the next 3-4 weeks.
Many of you have followed our journey and offered support and encouragement along the way.. this is why we are doing it.. for you our lovely customers and to show visitors what Wales is truly about when it comes to food..
We are so passionate about where we live, the rich Heritage of the surroundings and the people, but most of all our passion burns fiercely in our bellies.. We want to be the destination for people who are seeking out the true taste of Wales and so from the beginning of December, our new kitchen will be commissioned and our restaurant will be launched serving delicious, soul warming Welsh dishes from Breakfast until Bedtime.
We have been busy compiling menus and tweaking the current ones.. you’ll be pleased to hear that all the daily favourites will remain as well as the very popular Bwyta Bach menu but we’re bringing in some extra elements to the evenings and weekends, and as always you can expect the best of Welsh cuisine with classics and quirks..
We’ve got a wide and varied customer base and we want to continue offering something for everyone, so everybody is welcome at all times of day but we’ve created some lovely offers for families and over 60s during the week..
The weekly opening hours and calendar will run something like this..
Monday 9:30-21:00 – Afterschool club from 4-7pm Kids eat free!
Tuesday 9:30-21:00 – Vintage Nights from 6pm, Over 60s 10% off our whole menu and bar..
Thursday 9:30-23:00 – Quiz night.. Quiz, Curry and a Beer £9.95. All welcome, cash prize Quiz! Other menu options available, entry to Quiz outside offer £2. Quiz starts 7:30pm
Friday 9:30-23:00 Welsh Tapas & Live Music
Saturday 9:00-23:00 – Songs & Supper, rotating seasonal a la carte menu with beautiful acoustic musicians playing on the mezzanine above the dining area..
Sunday 9:00-18:00 – Cobbles Sunday Roasts from midday. Our take on the British Classic. An absolute showstopper with all the favourites using local meats, seasonal veg, big pillowy Yorkshire puddings, melt in your mouth roasties and rich cobbles pan gravy.. you won’t find a better Sunday roast for miles!
Of course, we’ll still have lots of exciting events happening such as our Secret Supper Clubs, Christmas, Easter, Halloween celebrations, festivals and lots more too!
